Let’s Get Started

Academic Coaching

When my daughter was in first grade, her teacher announced that the seven year olds who populated her classroom would need to earn top marks on the yearly standardized tests because their scores would be entered into their “Permanent Records”. Much as I tried to convince my little girl that no such records exist in first grade, she was inconsolable.

Many students I meet report having similar experiences—especially as they near their senior years. They have been told they must achieve a certain test score and craft a Pulitzer-worthy entrance essay or else vanish into collegiate obscurity. Dear Ones: No Such Place Exists.

My role as your Academic Coach:

  1. To learn who you are and how you shine. To remind you that a standardized test measures your ability to take a standardized test—not your intelligence, your potential, nor your value as a human being.

  2. To help you identify the working parts of the Language Arts portions of your standardized test(s) of choice so that nothing you encounter on test day will disarm your confidence.

  3. To read out-loud to you. To listen to you read out-loud to me. To ask you to write what you feel/think/question about what we read. To listen for the story only you can tell and to mentor you through the process of writing it.

Academic Coaching options are tailored to your student’s specific needs. In Person and Remote Sessions are available.
