Writing In Perilous Times: January 19, 2026-March 13, 2026
Drawing from the rich history of literature written as a reaction to and a reflection of tumultuous political, social, and economic eras, this course invites you to contribute your experiences, observations, and opinions to the time capsule of our modern age. Facilitated by veteran writers and editors Bridgette Shade and Damon DiMarco, Writing In Perilous Times offers participants an 8 week practicum in applied forms across genres, including personal essays, editorials, and ekphrastic expressions. Writing for Perilous Times is also the perfect course for anyone looking to develop an op-ed, article, white paper, speech, or similar composition aimed at championing a viewpoint.
As members of the Writers Collective Community have come to expect, each week’s content will include a lecture, suggested readings, and thematic prompts. In Perilous Times, we will train our focus on art that bears witness—art in all its forms and from across the ages, art we create, art we channel. Art as catharsis. Art as Catalyst.
The Basics: Writing for Perilous Times is an eight-week course, capped at 16 writers. Participants are invited to bring material they’re developing or to engage from scratch from the prompts and feedback provided. The two course instructors alternate giving weekly written feedback to ensure that participants reap the benefit of the broadest possible coverage. Each participating writer also enjoys four hours of personalized one-on-one coaching (two hours with each instructor) that can cover the piece they’re working on, craft points, the lifestyle of writing, career goals in the writing trade, and more.
