Over the course of one year, you will complete a first draft of a book length project. Maybe you’ve always wanted to write a novel, a memoir, a collection of essays or stories—this course will take you from concept to completion.

“Bring me all of your dreams, You dreamers,” as Langston Hughes writes. Let me help you build a bridge between the place where they live in your head and the place where they belong: on the page. Using a structure that is unique to your needs, we will draft and discuss approximately 25 pages per month. You will have the opportunity to workshop with other Book in a Year writers, but in-class critiques are not a requirement. You will receive written feedback from me on every monthly submission, and we will talk by phone (or zoom) 12 times throughout the year.

It’s one year from now. You have a book. The book has a brilliant title and Look! There’s your name typed just below it. The story you’d been saving, storing, secreting away is finally free. It’s home. It’s ready to be revised and honed. See it? I do.
